This 50’ standard box car with single Superior door and no roof walk is painted orange with large black logo and lettering,
and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Illinois Central Gulf railroad was formed by the merger of the Illinois
Central Railroad Company and the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad Company in 1972. After merging, the railroad operated
in 13 states. Today, the IC ships freight and operates passenger trains for Amtrak. It was a subsidiary of IC Industries, Inc.
(later Whitman Corp.), a holding company formed in 1962. The railroad was privatized in 1989 and merged with Canadian
National Railway Company (CN) in 1999. |
